Actress Rani Mukerji, who was recently hospitalized after a hectic Diwali weekend and was advised bed rest during her last month of pregnancy, gave birth to a healthy baby girl Tuesday morning at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
The announcement was made on the Yash Raj Films official Twitter account on behalf of filmmaker and company head Aditya Chopra and Rani. “Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra become proud parents to a baby girl named ‘Adira’,” the post read. The announcement was followed up with an official statement by the 37-year-old actress, who thanked her friends and family for the unconditional support. “I would like to thank all my well wishers and fans. Today life has given us God’s greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans, our friends and well wishers for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives,” she said in the statement.
Since the news broke, members of the Indian film fraternity have taken to social media to congratulate the couple with Karan Johar being the most ecstatic. “Am an uncle to a beautiful baby girl today! Rani and Adi had a baby girl!” K Jo tweeted.
Rani and Aditya tied the knot in April last year in what was a rather hush-hush ceremony, held in Italy.
