Who can forget 2014’s surprise hit Chef – a warm and fun take on familial love,
friendship and above

all, food. Not to forget, how the movie offered a true reflection of the power of social media in modern times. It seems this most unlikely blockbuster has caught the fancy of Indian filmmakers like many other in the recent past (read: Partner, Gajini, We Are Family).

According to Hollywood Reporter, the untitled film, whose director is still to be named and will be produced by Abundantia Entertainment and Eros International, will star B-town’s very own nawab, Saif Ali Khan. Saif, whose recent offerings have proved to be a disaster at the box office, was last seen in the role of a chef in Salaam Namaste, alongside Preity Zinta. The actor could really use a good script to regain his lost credibility as a bankable star and given his ease with comic roles, we are sure Saif will pull this one off. The question is, will he get that script?

For now, Favreau is eagerly looking forward to see his home production get the desi tarka. “I’m excited to see how this personal film translates to the Indian culture,” he said in a statement. “The themes of food, music and family should resonate well.”

The producer of the film, Vikram Malhotra, added, “Ever since I first saw Chef, I knew that this film had to be made in India. Charming relationships, a feel-good story and a unique journey of self-discovery make Chef the ideal film to bring alive in an Indian context.”
