Superstar Shaan Shahid remains one of the staunchest supporters of Pakistani cinema and he made his views loud and clear at the occasion of the recently held Nikon Photo and Film Festival Pakistan held recently in Lahore. The festival aimed to celebrate upcoming talent in the fields of photography and short films and Shaan was the guest of honour. Talking to the media, the actor clarified his stance on Bollywood which is generally thought to be a negative one. “I am not anti-India, I am pro Pakistan. If people take my support of the local film industry to mean that I am anti-India, so be it. During a cricket match, flags of both countries fly at the same level. My issue is that we need to operate on a level of equality across all field.”
Talking about the current revival of Pakistani cinema, Shaan was supportive of the directors who had taken a plunge into the realm of filmmaking. “We are in the throes of a digital revolution. It is great that so many people are now making films. In our days it was expensive and difficult but filmmaking is a lot easier now. However, the youth needs support from the government. This is the same youth that helmed Iran’s film revolution and created their film industry. But they did so because the government backed them with favourable policies and financial support.”
Perhaps the most exciting announcement was the release date of Shaan’s eagerly-anticipated thriller Yalghaar which, according to him will be ready to hit theatres in February 2016.
