The recently released theatrical trailer for the film proves one thing – ad filmmakers bring a stylistically mature approach to cinema that can’t help but draw the viewer in. Asad-ul Haq’s Dekh Magar Pyaar Say might have had its shortcomings but it was visually appealing. Similarly, the one and a half minute trailer of Ho Mann Jahaan looks picture perfect – from the good-looking young trio that makes up the lead cast to the superbly shot locations in Karachi and the northern areas to the gorgeous costumes.

By now, we know what the story is about – Mahira Khan, Sheheryar Munawar and Adeel Hussain are besties who might not share a similar socio-economic background but have a love for music in common. We hear their parents’ objections to their decision to start a band, there’s a hint of romance between Mahira and Adeel and the makings of a love triangle. It’s a bit Student of the Year if you ask us, but Asim Raza has promised that the movie will be a true depiction of urban Pakistan and we really hope that’s true.

A lot of expectations are attached to Mahira Khan’s performance, and from the trailer it seems the actress is essaying the role of the bubbly, girl-next-door that she’s done numerous times before. Let’s hope the script gives her something to chew on, otherwise the (predictable) cookie-cutter sweetness of it will be more of what we’ve already seen Mahira excel at.

Mahira Khan looks casual chic in an all-black ensemble for the event.

She does, however, seem to have brushed up on her dancing skills since Bin Roye and the wedding number set to Asrar’s foot-thumping ‘Shakkar Wandaan’ looks suitably grand and well-choreographed.

Of the two male leads, it is Sheheryar Munwar who leaves an impression on you, not just because of his brooding good looks but because his Arhaan has shades of grey and shows angst simmering beneath the happy-go-lucky demeanor. Sonya Jehan’s character
provides an intriguing sub plotline (is she the older woman Arhaan will fall for?) and these two may just be the reason to elevate the film from being a teeny-bopper romance to something with soul and depth.

Actress Nimra Bucha will also be seen in a supporting role in the film.

Another strong suit for the film is its fabulous soundtrack. From Asrar’s raw and edgy
vocals to Zeb Bangash’s soothing renditions, the album brings together the best of the music industry’s new and old. Overall, the film looks young, hip and fun and we hope that despite the rather telly drama feel of the trailer, it is able to make celluloid magic.
