"Fans get excited as the HMJ troupe makes surprise appearances all over town."

Ho Mann Jahaan promotions are in full swing and in between pop ups at colleges (they were spotted at IBA this week), the troupe could be found at The Place in Karachi this Friday. Their first stop was Espresso, after which they moved up to the Neuplex cinema floor, much to the delight of the surprised cine-goers to find them outside the theatres.

The intimate assembly at Espresso allowed the few lucky fans inside the restaurant (which was cordoned off to the public) to have a ‘cute-meet’ with the cast. Sheheryar Munawar and Adeel Hussain obliged all and sundry with ‘selfies’ while Mahira posed with that heart-warming smile that can melt a thousand ships. It was fantastic to catch up with the trio and lovely to see Sonya Jehan after years. Over from India for the film, Sonya looked better than she ever has, even though she did quip about having a French torso and Punjabi hips! You can catch her on Instagram doing a Dubsmash on ‘Shakar Wandaan’ with her brother, Sikander Rizvi.

There was fantastic camaraderie between Mahira, Sheheryar and Adeel; we asked all three of them one simple question about the movie: “Who gets the girl?” obviously knowing that we would never get a straight answer.

“I get all the girls,” Sheheryar smiled. “I get all the girls in the movie.” Rushes from the film do suggest that his interests lie in Sonya Jehan’s character more than Mahira’s. Food for thought there.

“Who gets the girl?” Mahira repeated. “Am I the girl?…No one gets the girl!” she said, which of course can’t be true because Ho Mann Jahaan is not a tragedy (at least we hope it isn’t).

“Never answer that question,” Adeel quipped in, speaking in a doomsday kind of a voice. “Who gets the girl? Find out on January 1!”

The energy was great, suggesting that Ho Mann Jahaan will be a light-hearted, fun watch even if nothing else (though we are hoping it will be much more!). That said, this meet-up at Espresso was supposed to be a ‘press-meet/ meet-the-fans’ kind of an activity but lack of planning (because we still don’t know how to promote films professionally) kind of threw it off balance; I mean, where was the press? There was more (if not all) mainstream press (bloggers and all) at Natasha Kamal’s launch at Fashion Pakistan Lounge in Dolmen Mall, happening at the same time, from where we had come from. This was undoubtedly a bigger event so we can’t help wondering why they hadn’t turned up here.

Anyway, we’re looking forward to Ho Mann Jahaan, releasing on January 1 and promising to be a popcorn entertainer. The music is already picking up resonance and we’ll get more on that at the ‘Kiskmish Aur Chhwaray’ concert, to be held in Karachi tomorrow!
