Earlier, it was rumoured that actress Huma Qureshi is auditioning to play a prominent role in the next installment of The Mummy, but it seems that Bollywood’s current sensation Deepika Padukone also auditioned for the same role.

According to DNA India, Padukone, who recently bagged her maiden Hollywood venture opposite Vin Diesel, recently flew to Los Angeles and auditioned for the role of an Egyptian girl in the film that also stars Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella. However, the actress has not received any response from the casting director and it’s likely that she has been rejected. “They are looking at other options. Even if Deepika doesn’t make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running for an important role in a Tom Cruise-starrer is quite a high in itself,” reported a website. Interestingly enough, though Huma’s team suggests that the directors liked her work, she too has not received any response whatsoever.

The Mummy reboot follows the story of Navy Seal Tyler Colt and his mission in the Iraqi desert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker and Sofia plays the prime antagonist in the film.
