The Birth Of A Nation trailer has landed. The film, whited debuted at Sundance back in January was locked in a bidding war before being snapped up by Fox Searchlight.

Nate Parker‘s acclaimed drama The Birth Of A Nation is a film we’re all looking forward to see here at THN following that dramatic acquisition in January, which saw Fox Searchlightsnap up the distribution rights for a cool $17.5 million. The Weinstein Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Netflix were all said to be involved in the auction.

The film’s budget was just $10 million, and was shot in just It also won the Audience Awards at Sundance, and also the Grand Jury Prize. You can watch The Birth Of A Nationtrailer below, but first, here’s the synopsis.

Set against the antebellum South, The Birth Of A Nation follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

The Birth Of A Nation will open in cinemas in the U.S. in October, but won’t arrive in U.K. cinemas until January – we’re expecting a huge awards push for the film, and Fox are clearly confident. Out of the 22 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for the film, just one of them was negative. Pretty impressive.
