Nic Pizzolatto’s True Detective had a dream debut in 2014. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, essaying detective partners Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, respectively, in the series, had us from the very first scene. The first season had no room for women beyond terrible clichés, which is why the addition of Rachel McAdams in the second season, seemed like a conscious effort in the right direction. But the second season of the show was just terrible. The presence of Hollywood biggies like Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams, in the second season, didn’t make up for all the flaws, and there were many. Television critic, Mary McNamara, in her review of the show, wrote in the L.A. Times: “Season 2 of True Detective appears to have abandoned abandon; it is careful and controlled in a way that seems highly self-conscious.”

And now, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has come out against the show, and the several high-profile actors associated with the project. “I tried to watch the first episode of season one – I didn’t get into it at all. I thought it was really boring. And season two looks awful. All these handsome actors trying to be not handsome, walking around looking like the weight of the world is on their shoulders.”
