It was initially pitched as a Pakistani version of Hangover, which was then later denied on the basis of an original script, but what it really looks like – post the release of its trailer this weekend – is a concoction of Bollywood adult comedies like Masti and Grand Masti.

Building on the hackneyed plot of husbands being poor bunnies and women wearing the pants, Jawani Phir Nahi Aani’s trailer boasts of a film that is unoriginal and clichéd at best. Unlike the teaser, the trailer is thankfully less controversial for Hamza Ali Abbasi who was earlier seen coming out of a pool amidst bikini-clad women contrary to his public image. But the trailer still doesn’t save its actors from criticism. While Humayun Saeed seems to the somber one, the comic acts by the likes of Ahmed Ali Butt and Hamza seem overt and forced. Nevertheless, there are
slight moments that tickle the funny bone and make one hope that JPNA isn’t yet another masala potboiler relying on crass humour for comedy.

Also starring Vasay Chaudhry, Mehwish Hayat, Sarwat Gilani, Aisha Khan, Uzma and Sohai Ali Abro, the film is scheduled for a release on Eid ul Azha in Pakistan as well as internationally.
