Touted as one of the most expensive films produced in Pakistan, the much talked about war saga Yalghaar has been making news since it was announced. Part of the reason for the hype is that two of the industry’s biggest actors – Shaan Shahid and Humayun Saeed – will face-off in the film as protagonist and antagonist respectively. Besides Shahid and Saeed, Yalghaar will also feature actors Adnan Siddiqui, Ayub Khoso, Ashir Azeem, Bilal Ashraf, Gohar Rasheed, Sana Bucha, Armeena Rana Khan and Ayesha Omar.
Directed by Hassan Waqas Rana of Waar fame, the long-delayed project has finally reached the post production stage and will soon get a release date. According to a source, the film which has been in the making for the last three years is expected to release in the “last quarter of this year”.
“The release date has not been finalized as yet; however, it is confirmed that the film will release this year,” the source told Instep on the condition of anonymity.
While most of the cast members have stayed the same despite a three-year period, one actor to bow out of Yalghaar before its release is Umair Jaswal. In an interview with Instep, Jaswal explained that he left the film due to “inevitable delays”. While Jaswal is no longer part of the film, Ali Rehman has joined the unit.
According to our source, the reason behind delays has to do with the cast (among other things). “The delay was mainly due to some of the cast members including the female ones, their tantrums, their insecurities and politics,” he stated.
Yalghaar will be a high-octane action film based on the true story of a military operation that took place in Swat.
