For weeks, we’ve been speculating about Salman Khan’s upcoming film Sultan and how it will impact Aamir Khan’s Dangal since both movies deal with the subject of wrestling. And now that the first official trailer of Salman Khan’s Sultan is here, we have to say it’s very impressive and could easily threaten the potential of Aamir’s film.
Leaving no stone unturned to promote this film, Salman Khan along with his co-star (in the film) Anushka Sharma made his presence felt during the ongoing edition of Twenty20 juggernaut, the Indian Premier League. Entering the IPL studio with Sharma, Khan launched the trailer of his new film and even danced for the audience in his cheeky, signature style.
Moving on to the trailer and it has all the elements that make a Bollywood film click. The opening scenes establish Khan as Sultan, a 40-year-old wrestler from Haryana with grit who goes onto win a gold medal. His heart lies with Arfa, a wrestler essayed by Anushka Sharma, who looks equally impressive in the ring. He pursues her, love blossoms but things take a turn for the worse as something pushes Sultan to leave the sport for which he lives. Years later, an unfit Sultan, makes a bid to return. No longer as athletic as he once was, it’s a struggle as Sultan tries to find his way back.
Full of colour, music and a lot of drama, the film reminds you that Salman Khan can, at times, truly entertain. And it must be noted that Khan who usually looks the same in every film has undergone a physical transformation for this project. Perhaps the most impressive part of the trailer is the paunch Khan is supporting and the unflattering haircut, a far cry from his usual appearance.
With intense action sequences and the first time pairing of Khan and Sharma, Sultan’s trailer has reached 1.6 million hits on YouTube and looks all set to conquer the box office upon release.
