Last week, we reported that Central Intelligence stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in talks to reunite for Sony’s long-awaited remake of Jumanji, which has already been set for release on July 28, 2017. Earlier today, The Rock made his part in the movie official, revealing through his Instagram page that he has signed on to star in and produce this fantasy adventure, while confirming that production will begin this fall. Back in February, Dwayne Johnson broke down his entire production schedule for the year, which kicked off with the new season of HBO’s Ballers, debuting this summer, followed by Baywatch, which he’s currently shooting now. After that shoot wraps up, the actor will move on to film Fast & Furious 8, and then he was originally supposed to move on to shoot Rampage after that. Last week’s report revealed that production on Rampage has been pushed into 2017, giving Dwayne Johnson the opening in his schedule needed to shoot Jumanji this fall, as he revealed on his Instagram page.
Jake Kasdan, best known for comedies like Sex Tape, Bad Teacher and Walk Hard, is directing from a script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who rewrote an early draft by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Matt Tolmach is producing alongside William Teitler, with Ted Field, Mike Weber and author Chris Van Allsburg, who wrote the original Jumanji book, executive producing. Jumanji currently has the July 28, 2017 weekend to itself, but it will debut a week after Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, EuropaCorp’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and 20th Century Fox’s The Story of Ferdinand.
No specific details were given for Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart’s characters in the Jumanji remake, but the story follows a 12-year-old boy trapped in a board game back in 1969 who is released 45 years later.
