After the first issue of our series Celebrity Siblings — with the intention to keep it going until it covers the last celebrity siblings that have their achievements speaking for them — it was next to impossible for us to leave out the starlet duo in the second installment. This duo is the new trend-setter for the aspiring young lasses, especially the budding actresses in Pakistan. The said duo has accomplished too much in this industry to overlook. They proved their worth in theater, video jockeying (VJ), and drama and not to mention big screens as well. The only supposedly pessimistic feeling one can spawn against them is envy, as the beauty and the brain combo, before hitting 25, have their lives worked out for them.

This session of the series is dedicated to Hocane Sisters; Urwa Hocane and Mawra Hocane.

Opened their eyes in Karachi, Urwa and Mawra’s family later moved to Islamabad where they completed their schooling and intermediate. Both the sisters, in their juvenile age, were pretty driven by the passion to do something different and be the stars they had always looked up to. Despite being relatively new faces in the very ripe industry, they have earned respect and fame in a very short time.

Urwa Hocane:

Born on July 2, 1991, Urwa tul Wusqa (aka Urawa Hussain) started out at a very tender age with theater. In fact back in 2009 while she was in college, she was offered to host a show as a VJ on a local music channel, she welcomed the offer instantly and has never looked back ever since. She would go to college in the morning and chase her dreams in the evening. They say luck only gives you so many chances before it leaves you deprived, and lucky are those who keep themselves open to those chances. Urwa was the lucky one. However,

it wouldn’t be wrong to articulate that luck has only enabled her to enter showbiz but Urwa has proven her mettle and illuminate her eminence in the industry. After only two years of her hosting career, she was proposed to work as a lead in the drama “Meri Ladli” alongside Ahsan Khan and Sajal Ali. She did many dramas —Kahi un kahi, Madiha Maliha to name a few — and TVCs. Like that wasn’t enough to her satisfaction, she did famous movies (continues to do so) and earned the fame that is she is entitled to now.

Mawra Hocane:

Mawra Hocane (Mawra Hussain), born September 28, 1992, admits that she got her first paycheque at the age of 13 (What?? Who could’ve imagined?). The aforementioned fact is self-explanatory of her passion and yearning to her calling. Mawra, following in her not-so-older- sister’s footsteps had also officially began her career, in showbiz, hosting a show as a VJ working her way up to becoming an actress in dramas — Maryam, Mere harjai, Aahista Aahista……..— and movies —Sanam Teri Qasam (Bollywood). Again, the mere fact, that she was offered a lead role in a movie from one of the largest film industries in the world, sufficed for her introduction.

Not only that she’s extremely talented, she’s stunningly pretty and gorgeous that her co-star Harshvardhan Rane is alleged to not being able to take his eyes off her. He quoted: “bohat kum larkiyan rotay huay itni sundar lagti hain” (not every girl looks as attractive while crying as Mawra does). In addition to this, she continues to pursue her degree in law. (I mean, C’mon!)

In the country so rich of young, inspiring and skilled artists, celebrity siblings come as a surplus. Their contribution and benefaction is a blessing bestowed on the industry aplenty. Their share is not something that can be overlooked or forgotten. We will keep posting about them in our series and will let you know of the success stories alongside lesser known and exciting facts about them. Stay with us 🙂
