While her TV serial Besharam is generating a lot of curiosity and interest among her fans in Pakistan, Saba Qamar has already flown to India to start work on her Bollywood debut opposite Irrfan Khan. When the news first came out, there was little information available for Qamar’s fans to get the feel of her new venture but of course expectations were high because Qamar isn’t an actor who’d settle for an irrelevant role. Now as more details have been unveiled along with a ‘first look’, one can be sure she hasn’t.
The film, titled Hindi Medium, will see Qamar play a domineering wife to Irrfan Khan. Directed by Saket Chaudhary of Pyaar Ke Side Effects fame, the film is a “light-hearted, romantic comedy about a couple from Chandni Chowk, who aspire to move into Delhi’s upper crust”, according to The Times of India. Hindi Medium will go on floors this August and is scheduled to release in summer 2017.
The makers told media that Qamar’s screen presence and confidence were apt for the character they had in mind and so they decided to rope her for the role. Both Qamar and Khan are known for their strong, unconventional performances on screen. Qamar has previously essayed the role of Begum Noor Jehan in Sarmad Khoosat’s critically-acclaimed film Manto while Khan will soon be seen in the socio-political drama Madaari, directed by Nishikant Kamat of Drishyam fame.
